OSCARS SO LONG

THE STORY

Last night, Jack Dawson finally had a reason to forgive Rose for that board thing. And Chris Rock roasted Hollywood. Hard.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

You may have heard that the Oscars are #SoWhite. So has Chris Rock. He spared no one, not even the people protesting. He said Hollywood is “sorority racist.” And that Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Oscars is like him “boycotting Rihanna’s panties.” Neither were invited. He also said this year’s “in memoriam” is going to be black people who were shot by the cops on the way to the movies. And in the end, he did help his daughters get a leg up on  Girl Scout cookie sales.

WHO WON?

Leo. Cue standing ovation. Brie LarsonNot Stallone“Spotlight” for Best Picture.Alejandro Inarritu picked up Best Director for the second year in a row. Alicia Vikander won Best Supporting Actress and made Eddie Redmayne cry. And “Mad Max” won ‘Best everything else.’

WHO LOOKED GOOD?

Charlize’s red made the carpet look meh in comparison. Margot Robbie one-upped Oscar. Chrissy Teigen brought her baby bump. Jacob Tremblay made his mini tux work. Just don’t ask any of them who they’re wearing.

WHO NOT SO MUCH?

If you don’t have anything nice to say…just click on Brie LarsonHeidi KlumCate Blanchett, and Pharrell ‘No Socks’ Williams.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Dionne from “Clueless” made everyone feel uncomfortableAli G was Indahouse.Lady Gaga and VP Joe Biden reminded everyone what consent means. Whoopi Goldberg was mistaken for Oprah. On a night that was all about not recognizing black people. Face. Palm.

theSKIMM

Last night was a three-and-a-half-hour long reminder to Hollywood that it has a diversity problem. TBD on what it’s going to do about it.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU REALIZE IT’S LEAP DAY…

Hillz took a big leap too. On SaturdayFmr. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton beat Sen Bernie Sanders (VT) in the SC primary. By a lot. She won big with black voters, who made up more than half of those who turned out. Sanders, Berned. Meanwhile, GOP candidate Donald Trump had an eventful weekend too. He  retweeted a quote attributed to a fascist dictator, said  “I know nothing about white supremacists” when asked about a former KKK leader’s support, and got endorsed by former presidential candidate Gov. Chris Christie (R- NJ) and Aaron Carter . This all comes right before Super Tuesday - aka primary D-Day, and a big indicator for who will win each party’s nomination. Right now, it looks like the political ball is in Trump and Hillz’s courts.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR COLLEGE ROOMMATE TELLS YOU SHE’S HAVING A BABY…

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes. They’re happening in Iran too. Over the weekend, people there headed to the polls in a parliamentary election, and showed they’re ready for reform . Literally. It looks like Reformists (people who want Iran to play nice with the international community) are going to pull a win against anti-Western hardliners (people who want Iran to stay isolated). Reformists are set to win all of the parliamentary seats up for grabs in Iran’s capital. Reminder: this was the first major election since last year’s nuclear deal that limits Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting harsh economic sanctions on the country. These election results might further open up Iran to the wild wild West and all the economic benefits that come with it. For Iranian President Rouhani, who wants reform, the results are a big vote of confidenc e for his ‘be better friends with the US’ vision. But for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who wouldn’t touch the West with a 10-foot pole, the results are not a good sign.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT…

Over the weekend, 32-year-old Ronald Hamilton - an active-duty Army Staff Sergeant assigned to the Pentagon - was accused of killing his wife and a Virginia police officer. The officer - who was working her first day on the job - was responding to a domestic disturbance call. Two other officers were injured. The Army confirmed that Hamilton worked at the Pentagon in information technology. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
